Cinnamon Recalled for Allegedly Elevated Lead Levels
The United States Food and Drug Administration has expanded a ground cinnamon recall to 19 brands of cinnamon after they were found to perhaps contain dangerous levels of lead. Some of these brands were distributed in Illinois and sold around the Midwest. The two Illinois distributors on the list were Raja Foods LLC and Asli Fine Foods. The FDA asked consumers to throw away and not buy the ground cinnamon products that are the subjects of the recall. Generally, cinnamon has a long shelf life, so consumers should check their shelves for cinnamon they’ve had awhile to determine whether it’s subject to the recall. If you or your child was exposed to lead in cinnamon and experienced harm, you should call the seasoned Chicago-based product liability lawyers of Moll Law Group. Billions have been recovered in cases with which we’ve been involved.

Long term exposure of months or years to elevated lead levels can result in adverse health effects, especially for members of the population that has elevated blood lead levels from other exposures. Various factors can impact whether adverse health effects are experienced from consumption of lead-contaminated foods including the consumer’s age; the duration and amount and frequency of lead exposure; and other exposures. Children and babies are especially vulnerable to adverse health effects from lead exposure—high levels of exposure to contaminated cinnamon in utero, infancy or early childhood could result in neurological consequences, including learning disabilities or behavioral problems.
