The Walmart recall involves several different kinds of 4,477,655 Walmart Expert Grill metal wire bristle brushes that have stainless steel or black plastic handles. Some of the brushes have a metal scraper. These are the affected brushes: (1) Expert Grill Long Handle Grill Brush with Scraper, 17.7” (XG1136178597003); Expert Grill 21” 3-head Grill Brush with Stainless Steel Bristles and Soft-Grip Handle (XG1310700206); Expert Grill Handheld Steel Fiber Scrub Brush with Ergonomic Handle for Grill Cleaning (EX5607031616003). You can find the model numbers on a sticker or tag or on the product packaging. These were distributed both in stores and online at Walmart.com from January 2021-August 2026 for $1-$28.

Consumers have been told to stop using the recalled brushes right away. If you were not injured, you can contact Walmart to get a refund or credit. You’ll be asked to throw away the brush or give it to Walmart. However, if you were injured, a refund or credit is likely insufficient to cover for the pain and medical bills you may have. In that case, it might be appropriate to bring a product liability lawsuit.

This kind of lawsuit is pursued when a product is defective in terms of its design, marketing, and manufacturing. Design defects are flaws in the specifications of the product; they occur in every unit of the product. Manufacturing defects are problems in how the product was made. Typically they are one-off problems or problems in a batch. Marketing defects often involve failure to warn.

In addition to establishing a defect with the help of an expert on grill brushes, we would need to establish a theory of liability. Different jurisdictions recognize different theories. These include strict liability, negligence, breach of warranty, breach of contract, and statutory violations. Most often, strict liability is the theory with the greatest favorability for plaintiffs. They require our attorneys to prove: (1) a defect, (2) the defect caused injuries, and (3) damages.

Damages we may be able to recover include both economic and noneconomic losses.
