After Injuries, Hillshire Brands Recalls 58 Million Pounds of Corn Dog Products
Hillshire Brands Company recently issued a major recall, which the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service classified as a Class I recall, of about 58 million pounds of corn dogs and sausage-on-a-stick products. The reason for the recall is that these products may have pieces of wood embedded in the batter. There have been five reports of injuries so far. Class I recalls are the most serious types of recalls. If you were injured as a result of wood embedded in the battered portions of your corn dog or sausage-on-a-stick, you should call the seasoned Chicago-based attorneys of Moll Law Group. Billions have been recovered in lawsuits around the country with which we’ve been involved.

There have been multiple consumer complaints about the corn dogs and sausage-on-a-stick products. The company has received multiple complaints from consumers, including five reports of injuries. The U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service has classified the recall as Class I, the highest threat level.
The affected corn dog and sausage-on-a-stick products were mostly branded as Jimmy Dean and State Farm products. They were packaged between March 17-2025-September 26, 2025, and either sold online or shipped around the country to various food service locations and retailers, as well as school districts and Department of Defense facilities around the country. The affected products also have the establishment number “EST-582” or “P-894” printed on the packaging. These items were sold online and shipped to retail and food service locations nationwide.
After there were complaints made, the Hillshire Brands Company investigated and decided that the wooden sticks got into the production process before the products were battered.
FSIS believes that some consumers may have already bought and refrigerated or frozen affected products. The consumers, schools, and other institutions that bought the affected products have been asked not to consume them and to instead throw them away or return them to the place they were purchased.
If you or your child was injured by sticks or pieces of sticks in the corn dogs or sausage-on-a-stick products, you may be able to recover compensation by bringing a product liability lawsuit. These are lawsuits brought when products cause injury due to manufacturing, design, or marketing defects. In this case, the additional wooden sticks were likely not part of the original design of the corn dogs or sausage-on-a-stick products, and so the most likely defect is a manufacturing one. Manufacturing defects are flaws in how a product is made; unlike design defects, they are not in every single unit of a product.
