Experienced Chicago-Based Lawyers for Roblox Litigation

Kid playing video-games

According to one source, the Roblox platform is used by around 85 million children a day, and half of these users are under age 13. As of November 2025, it was reported that Roblox faces over 35 lawsuits, many of them filed by parents who allege that the platform allows sexual predators to get in touch with children, even when they are not already connected on the platforms. The state has also brought legal action against Roblox. If your child was contacted, threatened, coerced, groomed or sexually exploited by a predator on the Roblox platform, you may have grounds to sue for damages. Call the experienced Chicago-based Roblox lawyers of Moll Law Group to discuss whether you have a viable basis to bring a lawsuit. Billions have been recovered in cases with which we’ve been involved, and we represent children and their families around the country.

Litigation Against Roblox

Unfortunately, predators may sometimes have access to children via Roblox. One lawsuit was brought after the perpetrator pretended to be sixteen and moved discussions off of Roblox and onto Discord where he used the promise of Robux gift cards to obtain explicit videos and images. In that instance, the perpetrator threatened the child by saying he knew his home address. Another case arose when a teenager took her life after joining an extremist group (TCC or True Crime Community) on Roblox that romanticized school shooters and then following them to Discord and then TikTok.

One lawsuit alleges that Roblox permits experiences centering on Jeffrey Epstein, the shooting of minorities with the words “ethnic cleansing onscreen” and the 1999 Columbine school shooting. It also alleges that adults have used Discord to blackmail and ask teens to hurt themselves or video themselves committing suicide in front of their computer or phone.

Roblox Actions

Roblox has claimed that it filters text chats to block content inappropriate for children like violence, sexual content, or bullying. However, the allegations in these lawsuits intimate that these measures may have been inadequate. Roblox has decided to use AI to implement further safety measures; it will be using facial recognition age checks. This means the platform app and the camera on the user’s device will be used to scan the user’s face, or he or she must provide valid ID to Roblox to verify their ages. By default, the chat feature will be turned off, unless the child passes an age check and the child’s parent provides consent.

Damages for Harassment and Exploitation

Companies that enable perpetrators to engage in harassment, exploitation and other harmful acts toward children should be held accountable. The new measures Roblox is taking with face recognition cannot bring back loved ones. Theories of liability that could be used to hold Roblox accountable vary by state. However, many of the lawsuits ask courts to look at whether a digital platform like Roblox is defectively designed; plaintiffs allege that the platform is defectively designed because their central features create foreseeable and preventable harms. In some states, to prove a design defect in cases involving harm to children, the plaintiff’s attorney must show: (1) the platform’s design created a foreseeable risk of harm, (2) the risk of those harms outweighed the benefits of the design, (3) there were safer alternative designs, and (4) the design of the platform was a substantial factor in producing the harms faced by the child.

If our seasoned Chicago-based lawyers are able to establish liability, we may be able to recover compensation for injuries. Both economic and noneconomic damages may be recovered. Economic damages are tangible losses arising out of the injuries such as medical expenses, therapy expenses, and out-of-pocket expenses. Noneconomic damages include pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss of earning capacity, and reimbursement for other intangible losses.

When a child dies due to another’s intentional misconduct or negligence, it may be possible to recover damages by filing a wrongful death lawsuit. In many states, this lawsuit can be filed by the personal representative of the decedent’s estate; in the case of child victims, this is likely to be the parents of the deceased child. Damages will be awarded to the decedent’s surviving family members. These damages may include funeral and burial expenses, medical expenses incurred before death, and pain and suffering.
